Following his internment in Auschwitz former boxer Tadeusz competes in bouts arranged by the Nazi guards.

As his reputation grows Tadeusz is offered more food and medicine, however, the treatment of his fellow prisoners means he does all he can to ensure their safety often to the detriment of his own treatment.
