Young girl Gypsy Blanchard (King) finds herself increasingly under strain from her overbearing mother Dee Dee (Arquette) who shows signs of mental illness that result in her abusing her daughter in a myriad ways.

However, as Gypsy attempts to gain her own independence things come to a head.
