RNA interference (RNAi) is a regulatory mechanism that makes use of small double-stranded RNA molecules for sequence-specific suppression of gene expression through translation or transcriptional repression.

Two types of RNA molecules are used for RNAi: microRNA and small interfering RNA (siRNA).
