Macgamut : Intervals, Scales and Chords 2.0

See all formats and editions

This aural training drill-and-practice programme gives beginning music theory students practice in notating and identifying intervals, scales and chords.

The software is flexible as instructors can choose the parameters which determine how the student proceeds through the programmes.

It is easy to use: writing music notation on the screen with a mouse is similar to writing music notation with pencil and paper.

MacGAMUT allows students to enter their notation by playing the answers on the MIDI keyboard (if the instructor allows that option). The programmes use: constructive feedback - students can correct wrong answers, hearing what they identified and notated, and then hearing the correct answer again, and mastery learning - students must attain a level of proficiency before moving to a more difficult level.

Each exercise is based on the individual student's succession of correct and incorrect answers. MacGAMUT keeps track of each student's work on the student's disk.

Instructors can therefore see exactly how much time students have spent on each programme, how many problems they have tried and how many they have answered correctly.

In addition to the regular drills, students can set up their own drill by specifying exactly which pairs or groups of intervals, scales, modes, triads or seventh chords they want to practice.
