The story begins and ends in the city of New Orleans.

The story describes a four day excursion trip taken by artists, aesthetes, and adolescents.

The motorized yacht is named 'the Nausikaa. The boat is owned by a very rich patron of the arts.

The novel has six sections: prologue, four body sections, and an epilogue.

The prologue introduces the characters. The four body sections of the story tell four days' description of the yacht trip hour by hour, and the epilogue brings back the characters, when they come back to their normal life after the boat trip.

Some of the characters are changed and some remain unchanged in their attitude.
