Existing Chemicals of Environmental Relevance - Pt. 2 : Selection Criteria and Second Priority List

In this book the Advisory Committee on existing chemicals of environmental relevance, indicated ways and means to deal with the problems associated with existing chemicals.

First they select the 512 environmentally most relevant substances from an estimated 100,000 chemicals currently on the European Community market.

Then the committee, consisting of representatives from academia, the chemical industry and government, examines these chemicals according to eight criteria covering environmental exposure and effects (i.e. occurrence and degradability in water and air, bioaccumulation, toxicity, mutagenic or carcinogenic characteristics).

An appendix lists the 512 chemicals by CAS numbers in ascending order, thereby facilitating access to them.

A statistical analysis of the data structure of the chemicals enables a more precise interpretation of the data.
