South Africa's International Economic Relations in the 1990's

In April 1993, the Aspen Institute and the Institute for a Democratic Alternative for South Africa (IDASA) sponsored a conference in South Africa that brought together international economists and policy advisers and their South African counterparts.

The papers in this book draw on that conference. The authors focus on South Africa's international economic policy options in the 1990's, especially with regard to global trends in trade, capital flows and international financial institutions.

They explore the globalization of multinational corporations and examine policies that should attract foreign private investment.

The authors emphasize the comparative experience of countries such as Malaysia, Korea, Mexico and Argentina, that are at similiar stages of development, or that face similiar challenges.
