White City was once a rival to Wembley. With a capacity well in excess of 100,000, it was Britain's foremost sports venue until the Empire Stadium was built in 1923.

Used to host the Olympic Games in 1908, it also staged games in the 1966 World Cup and boasted a strong tradition of speedway and dog-racing.

Finally demolished in 1983, this was a place of enormous significance in London and England's sporting heritage.
