As part of a series of annual reports which analyse trends in international tourism, this volume focuses on regional and subregional tourism flows and earnings through 2002 in Asia and the Pacific as a whole, and by individual country.

It looks at arrivals, receipts, hotel capacity, and major source markets.

Overall, this region saw continuous growth for international tourism in 2002 with a growth in arrivals of 8.4 per cent, with North-East Asia recording a notable growth rate of 12.2 per cent (particularly due to China and its special territories of Hong Kong and Macao).

Although the region was hit in the latter part of the year by terrorist attacks, the most affected destinations reacted promptly and implemented special, effective marketing plans.
