Its local name is sapito de Peters. It is found in Bolivia, Brazil, Colombia, Ecuador, French Guiana, Guyana, Peru, Suriname, and Venezuela.

Its natural habitats are subtropical or tropical moist lowland forests, dry savanna, moist savanna, intermittent freshwater marshes, pastureland, rural gardens, and heavily degraded former forest.

It is not considered threatened by the IUCN.
