Corstopitum an Edwardian Excavation

See all formats and editions

This little booklet contains a selection of over forty old photographs, with supporting text, from the 1906-1914 excavations of the Roman site at Corbridge, Northumberland.

Leonard Woolley, who helped supervise the excavations, complained that I had never studied archaeological methods even from books (there were none at the time dealing with the subject), and I had not any idea of how to make a survey or a groundplan'!

Offers a fascinating insight into archaeological techniques and discoveries early in the century.

Also a valuable source of unpublished information for those interested in the site.
