Breyten Breytenbach is regarded as the greatest living poet in Afrikaans.

As a prominent member of the Sestiger movement, he changed the landscape of Afrikaans poetry in a way that will not be equaled soon.

On a trip to South Africa in 1975 he was arrested and sentenced to seven years of imprisonment for high treason.

International fame followed after his release, and he is currently a strong contender for the Nobel Prize for Literature.

Parool/Parole is a selection of Breytenbach's speeches delivered at key moments of South Africa's political and social history.

Riveting, undermining and visionary in its scope, the author's controversial commentary on a variety of issues provides invaluable perspectives on a complex and troubled world.
