Run by the Department of Education and Employment, the national writing competition for schools, 'Write Here, Write Now', has been running for two years, following its hugely successful launch in 2000.

The competition aims to stimulate enthusiasm for writing and to improve writing skills across the full range of abilities.

The prize-winning writing in this anthology is by primary school children aged 8 to 10, who have chosen to write from a choice of four categories: story, poem, script and non-fiction.

In each category the children had to complete a piece started by a famous writer: Jacqueline Wilson (story), John Hegley (poem), Phil Redmond (script) and Tony Robinson (non-fiction).

The winning entries contained in this book are an uplifting testament to the creative talent of today's children.
