Bilbury is the village everyone dreams of living in.

It's the village where people speak to strangers and are kind to each other; the village where doors are left open during the day and at night are shut, (rather than bolted) merely to keep out the cold and the neighbours' cats.

It's the village where children play on the village green without mothers hovering constantly nearby, alert for strangers in long overcoats.

Bilbury is the village where people leave their doors open when they pop to the shops so that unexpected visitors could make themselves a cup of tea.

Living rooms have log fires, the pub has a piano and no one knows what a window lock is.

Bilbury Village is the story of a small Devon village in the mid-1970's. but mainly, of course, it's the story of the people who live there and it centres on the young doctor and his lovely wife.

It is a story of great happiness and joy, some tragedy and many dramas.

Bilbury is the village where the unexpected invariably happens.
