It is Sunday 28 June 1914 and Rose Warrington is celebrating her sixtieth birthday at the remote family home of Fencott Place on Dartmoor.

But on that very same day, Archduke Ferdinand and his wife are assassinated in far-away Sarajevo, leading to the outbreak of The Great War.
