Sigismondo: Rossini Opera Festival (Mariotti)

Mezzo Daniela Barcellona heads the cast in this rarely performed early Rossini opera, recorded live at the 2010 Rossini Opera Festival in Pesaro.

Premiered in 1814, the storyline revolves around Polish king, Sigismondo, driven mad over his wife's death, which he, convinced of her infidelity, had ordered.

In the second act, the king, after recovering his senses, must marshall his country's defense against the threat of an invading Bohemian army.

Other cast members include Andrea Concetti, Olga Peretyatko, and Antonino Siragusa.

Michelle Mariotti conducts the Orchestra and Chorus of the Teatro Comunale di Bologna.
