But not all attention was on the blaze that destroyed London.

Three weeks before the blaze, British ships obliterated the Dutch town of Westerscheling and set 150 merchant vessels ablaze, rumours were rife that the fire may have been started by Britain's enemies.

In the weeks before, Sir Matthew Quinton, Master of HMS Sceptre is recalled to a city seething with plots and paranoia and is given a dangerous mission by the King.
