Doorstep Discovery: Working on a Local History Study

Local studies are an essential part of the National Curriculum in History.

This video follows a group of teacher-training students at Homerton College, Cambridge, as they carry out a local-history study of their own college and its immediate area.

It then follows two of the students on their first teaching practice as they put the theory to the test at a primary school in a small town. The video incorporates details of research into documents, landscapes, buildings and oral history, which are suitable for supplementary study units in local history.
