Echoing Women's Voices in Latin American and Canadian Studies: A Sociohistorical Perspective/Ecos feministas en los estudios latinoamericanos y canadienses: Una perspectiva sociohistorica celebrates women, their multicultural diversity, spirituality, intellectuality, needs and desires, worth, and resilience. This multidisciplinary volume on women's voices scrutinizes the past and the present in a circular manner, imitating the circle of life. It takes a sociohistorical stance on women and gender, presenting a collection of articles that carefully examine as well as disseminate a corpus of empirical and fictional narratives of women standing up for themselves, while encountering new possibilities. Echoed directly and indirectly by our authors, these diverse voices reveal the current state of patriarchal institutions, and how gender-based violence and inequality affect self-development and, conversely, spur women toward self-empowerment, transformation, and new beginnings.
