See all formats and editions

Each book in the series introduces pupils to a wide range of culturally appropriate text types, including fiction, poetry and non-fiction.

The books are graded according to readability and are incremental in difficulty and provide a complement to any other resources currently being used.

Each unit in the book is structured in the same way, making the books accessible and easy to use.

The activities linked to each text support the development of essential reading skills.

At "Text Level" pupils are encouraged to read at different levels involving literal, inferential and evaluative comprehension skills.

The texts are also used to help pupils develop skills at "Sentence Level" (grammar and punctuation) and "Word Level" (spelling and vocabulary).

The stimulus passages are then used as models to help pupils develop their compositional writings skills in both fiction and non-fiction writing.

After each six units there is a "Spotlight on Writing" unit.

These consist of four pages of activities. They develop work covered in the preceding six units.

They offer structured support on compositional writing covering different text types, both fiction and non-fiction. At the back of the course book there is a glossary.

This explains and gives examples of key language terms and concepts covered in the activities.

The glossary may be used for teaching purposes or for reference by the pupils.
