Following on from the popular Gershwin Arrangements, the piano writing in this cycle is more exuberantly virtuosic and outgoing than its prequel. This collection of 9 individual pieces based on melodies by Gershwin draws on the jazz influenced harmonies and rhythms of the era, combined with Finnissy's own discernible style.

His use of improvisatory techniques adds a personal slant to the emotions implied by the original songs.
