This Is My Story : Adopting within the family

See all formats and editions

This book is written about my personal experience becoming a foster parent and adopting dealing with the legal entities on gaining custody through the state, and the heartache that comes with kinship adoption. I got custody of my newborn grandson and then had to prove I was good enough to raise him after already raising my four sons as a divorced man. I learned the system is not in favor of a single man taking a child in and being a single dad. It seems that single mothers are the norm, and dads should not tackle such a task. (I was told this) I have seen where others reach out to the single mother but ask why a man would try to do the same as she has done. I have been told a child needs a mother, and I agree, but that is not said to the mother about the child needing a dad. I hear all the time about how amazing and awesome single mothers are, and how brave they are to take on the responsibility of single parenthood, but hardly ever hear the stories of the single dads and grandfathers out there, this is my story.
