See all formats and editions

For 35 years Michael and Sheri Ginsberg owned Fine Line Imports, a wholesale women's clothing business, based in Toronto Canada. This memoir is their story - an entrepreneurial journey and behind-the-scenes look into the business of ready-to-wear fashion. The stories in "Threading the Needle" are all set in the fashion business, but entrepreneurs in any field will recognize themselves in the struggle to build a business and succeed in one of the world's toughest industries. Sheri tells their story through amusing anecdotes and some very unnerving tales of their experiences in the garment trade and travels in Hong Kong, China, India, and around the world. The book relates the journey from their humble, shoe-string beginnings as commissioned sales agents, to importers of U.S.-made fashion lines, to creators of their own collections, Fresh FX and Uptown Girl, and the challenge of importing and selling their collections in Canada and the U.S. Their story is one of tenacious striving, learning new skills and overcoming obstacles to create a successful business. The stories are told in Sheri's unique voice and honest style, relating the fears and challenges with humour, even when telling about some very scary times like the necessary visit to a Chinese hospital and being abducted in a taxi in Mexico City

This is a very personal and revealing journey alongside husband Michael as they spend 24 hours a day, 7 days a week together to build the business and maintain a happy marriage for over 40 years.
