Aimed at all industries in the UK, this text sets out the aspects of first aid that employers need to address under the Health and Safety (First aid) Regulations 1981.

It aims to help employers to comply with their legal duties and offers practical and realistic first-aid support to their workforce.

The booklet explains that employers have duties to provide equipment and facilities adequate and appropriate in the circumstances for enabling first aid to be rendered to employees.

It also explains that employers should make an assessment of first-aid needs and where the assessment identifies a need for people to be available for rendering first-aid, the employer should ensure that they are provided with sufficient numbers and at appropriate locations to enable first aid to be administered without delay if necessary.

Just how much provision is needed depends on the circumstances in each workplace.
