Design guidance on flood damage to dwellings

Over recent years serious flooding has occurred in a number of areas in Scotland.

The Scottish Office has responded by publishing a National Planning Policy Guideline (NPPG 7) on Planning and Flooding.

This report has been prepared by the Building Research Establishment for the Scottish Office Construction and Building Control Group and is intended to help designers, builders and other involved in the design and construction of housing on sites where there is a risk of flooding.

While the report is intended primarily to provide guidance on the design and construction of new dwellings, it will also be relevant to existing buildings when work is undertaken involving alterations, extensions or change of use.
