This is a biographical dictionary of leaders in hydraulic engineering and fluid mechanics.

Communication between hydraulic engineers often refers to people whose names relate to equations, or diagrams or even to a certain procedure.

Who were these people? This book answers these questions by presenting hundreds of short biographies of the most important individuals in Europe who have significantly contributed to knowledge in hydraulics and hydrodynamics, but also in dam engineering and fluid dynamics, and water-related sciences in general.

Many of these persons have been associated with IAHR and thus may be considered our professional fathers.

The book intends to highlight a great history of engineering and applied mathematics, and add to the history of technology in general.
