Stress Intensity Due to Residual Stresses

In this report, the stress intensity factors corresponding to the SINTAP standard residual stress profiles have been evaluated for a range of common joint geometries and defect types.

The recommended profiles are mostly non-linear, so the methods for obtaining stress intensity factors are more complex than for linear distributions such as the membrane or bending stresses due to applied loads.

In many cases, it is necessary to apply one or more transformations to the profiles in order to make them suitable for use in conjunction with the solutions given in the SINTAP handbook of stress intensity factor solutions.
