In 1980's Northern Ireland, Patrick Mullan starts his new life with a secret identity, having served time in prison for the horrific death of an innocent man, the father of Inspector Matthew Hampton.

Shortly after release from prison, Patrick Mullan's father is found dead in his own home.

Inspector Hampton is called to investigate the murder, which appears to be linked to the death of his own father, years earlier.

As Inspector Hampton becomes consumed with the investigation, trouble starts to unfold for each and every member of the Hampton family, all of whom are faced with trauma on a scale they could scarcely even imagine.

As the Hampton family come to terms with the shock of recent events, it is down to one man to bring a sense of calm back into their lives and to repair broken bonds in a way that none of them could have predicted.
