Doug (Will Forte), an abusive dog owner, repeatedly attempts to abandon his adoring Border Terrier Reggie (Ferrell), which Reggie assumes is simply a game and so always makes his way home.

One day, after being dumped on the city streets, Reggie runs into a pack of stray dogs who set him straight about his owner's cruel intentions.
