This guide to the entire corpus of Anglo-Saxon charters presents information in a form not previously available.

A general introduction describes the different ways in which charters were preserved, whether in their original form, or as copies in monastic cartularies, or as copies made by antiquaries from manuscripts now lost.

This is followed by a brief account of each of the archives from which Anglo-Saxon charters survive in any form, with a list of all the charters in question.

Finally, there is a record of all charters extant on single sheets of parchment, classified according to date (or apparent date) of writing.
