Bush resigned as Governor to prepare for his presidential inauguration.

Perry became the first Texas A&M graduate to serve as governor.

Perry is a member of the Republican Governors Association, the National Governors Association, the Western Governors Association, and the Southern Governors Association.

Perry is currently serving as Chairman of the Republican Governors Association; he previously served as its Chairman in 2008.

Perry has advocated an emphasis on accountability, raising expectations, and funding programs that work in order to improve the quality of Texas schools.
