Lipids and Syndromes of Insulin Resistance : From Molecular Biology to Clinical Medicine

The insulin resistance syndrome describes a cluster of diseases including glucose intolerance, non-insulin-dependent diabetes mellitus, obesity, dyslipidemias, hypertension, and cardiovascular disease; these diseases tend to co-express in individuals and are likely to share a common aetiology.

This volume explores the role in this syndrome of lipids in their multiple forms: as dietary fat, as structural components of cells, as carrier molecules in circulation, as gene modulators, and as precursor molecules for a range of important metabolites.
