Discourse perspectives have emerged as a means of addressing the structuring effects of language.

This book aims to show how such perspectives can provide a framework for critical intervention and radical political engagement.

It focuses in turn on: the process of dismantling apartheid; the issue of gender and sexuality in popular culture; everyday talk and counselling practice; methodological issues arising from discourse analysis in South Africa; and finally on the wider context of using this kind of analysis for supporting change.
