By working through the sections of this program, students should come to realize the importance of finding out about themselves, looking at their options and making decisions about their futures.

This CD-ROM is based on a selection of the activities in the "Looking Ahead" printed resource packs for Years 9, 10 and 11.

The CD-ROM should enable students to participate in a range of interactive tasks presented in a multi-media form with state-of-the-art graphics and sound. The CD-ROM operates using Windows 3.1 or Windows 95 and requires the following: processor - 486 DX2 66 MHZ - or higher RAM - 8 Mb; monitor - screen resolution - 640x 480 displaying 65,536 colours (16 bit); CD-ROM drive - double speed, multi session; sound - 16 bit audio card; operating system - Windows 3.11 or Windows 95; standard keyboard and mouse. Produced by a task group of teachers and careers advisors in East Sussex as part of the Year 9/10 Careers Guidance Initiative and trialled in schools, the resource packs for Years 9, 10 and 11 contain material on a range of activities.

The packs cover the following areas: finding out about yourself - helping students to develop a greater self-awareness, analyze their skills, qualities and interests and plan for change in the future; making decisions - helping the students develop the skills to make effective decisions; using your careers library - helping students develop the skills to use the range of careers information; options - helping students consider and make choices and become aware of the implications of choice; and widening horizons - helping students to look at their perceptions of "work", explore gender stereotyping and increase awareness of part-time work. Each resource is contained in an A4 ring-binder which provides flexibility for teachers to add their own material and select the exercises they wish to use with their pupils.

The students' activity sheets are copyright free to the purchasing teacher.
