Diethylene glycol dimethyl ether (in the following called diglyme), is a colourless liquid with a slight, pleasant odour.

Due to its dipolar aprotic properties, diglyme is used mainly as a solvent (semiconductor industry, chemical synthesis, lacquers), as an inert reaction medium in chemical synthesis, and as a separating agent in distillations.

This text evaluates the risks to human health and the environment of this chemical.

Diglyme liquid or vapour is readily absorbed by any route of exposure, metabolized, and excreted mainly in the urine.

The main targets of diglyme toxicity are reported to be in the reproductive organs.
