Hodder English GOLD - "Poems of War"

The "Hodder English Gold 4" course combines access to a quality English programme at KS4 with emphasis on basic skills support for pupils working at levels 2 to 4 of the National Curriculum.

The course has been constructed in association with the Basic Skills Agency to ensure readability and accessibility, while offering students full coverage of the English National Curriculum. This book introduces pupils to a range of poetry inspired by wars from Victorian times to the late 20th century.

It includes poems by Siegfried Sassoon, Robert Graves and Wilfred Owen, as well as poems about the Blitz, the Holocaust and Hiroshima, and the impact of the Bosnian war in the 1990s.

Through individual and group activities students are encouraged to analyse how the different poems are constructed and for what purpose they were written.
