Necessitated by the need to standardize the ever-increasing literature of tumour terminology, the text suggests preferred terminology and lists all synonyms currently in use.

The book is divided into chapters devoted to specific organs or organ systems.

Using a three column format to arrange information, the first column lists all the names that have been used for the various tumours that develop within a particular organ; the second column catalogues all known synonyms; and the third column provides a brief description of each tumour.
