Ordering the Membrane: Cytoskeleton Trilayer

Recent advances in cellular and molecular biology and molecular genetics ascribe an increasingly prominent role to the cytoskeleton and the membrane skeleton in the control of shape, stability, vesicular transport, and receptor organizations and membrane trafficking.

This volume highlights these advances in the understanding of the mechanisms by which the cytoskeleton organizes and controls function at the membrane surface.;The text includes discussions of the molecular basis of active vesicle transport; the role of the cytoskeleton in regulating membrane topography during development; the mechanisms by which the cortical cytoskeletion bestows lateral order in the membrane; the mechanisms by which these interactions are regulated at both a transcriptional and post-translational level; and the molecular pathology of recently recognized disorders with defective cytoskeleton membrane interaction.
