During the 140 years of the Warwickshire Constabulary the area policed has changed, with constant alterations to the county's boundaries.

In earlier days, for example, the county also encompassed Aston Manor and Sutton Coldfield, now part of Birmingham.

The author, an Inspector in the Force, has produced from the Force's archives, a photographic history of the Warwickshire Constabulary from Victorian times to the present day.

One early photograph in the collection, for instance, depicts the Inspector at Stratford-upon-Avon with a horse-drawn two-wheeler, driven by a constable who served both as groom and personal assistant.

Other photographs show how transport has changed from early horse-drawn vehicles, bicycles, motor scooters and motor cycles, to cars and helicopters.

Changes in uniform and badging are also covered, as are off-duty social activities of police sports teams.

The work of the special constable and the role of women in the police also receive attention, as does the work of the Force on serious crimes in the county.

The social changes since Victorian times are also evident in this photographic collection.
