Railways and Communication Systems - Advancement and Integration of Communication Systems

These proceedings address the application and development of communication systems within the rail network from integrating systems, problem solving and implementing multimedia for passenger security, to signalling issues.

In particular, the area of mobile communications and GSM-R versus TETRA was debated alongside the value of integrated radio and fibre-optic systems.

"Mobile Communications Within the Rail System" covers: how far has GSM progressed as a system for mobile rail communications to railway communication systems. "Integrated Rail Communications" include track to train radio technology - a supplier's perspective, London Underground's proposed integrated radio and fibre-optic transmission networks -the connect project and systems integration. "Future Signalling and Safety" examines: signalling and safety issues, future investment in railway signalling and radio based signalling.
