Fur-und Wider-Spruche

This cassette, plus an accompanying textbook which is available separately, are designed for intermediate German studies. More than a conventional reader, the book challenges students to develop their capabilities to deal with a variety of authentic texts from and about Germany, Austria, and Switzerland, and it fosters communicative skills, cross-cultural analysis, and critical thinking. The book develops students' abilities to communicate effectively and appropriately in both spoken and written German; introduces students to timely critical and controversial issues in the German speaking world today; encourages students to make intercultural comparisons and analyses; and presents an integrated and integrative approach to German studies through the German language. Fur- und Wider-Spruche consists of five thematic sections, each with several chapters dealing with different aspects of the main theme, as well as chapters dealing with advanced grammatical topics and the development of strategic skills.

The book also includes a glossary and detailed teaching suggestions and background information on individual texts.
