The purpose of this book is to provide nurses and other health workers with knowledge of the structure and functions of the human body and the changes that take place when diseases disrupt normal processes.

In this edition large parts of the text have been rewritten to update subject matter and provide new material.

Its purpose, as in the previous edition, is to describe, not to prescribe: diagnostic procedures, medical treatments and nursing care are not included.

Chapter 1 continues to provide a brief overview of the interrelationships between the body systems, the stylised illustrations showing the links between the various parts.

Later chapters provide anatomically accurate illustrations, more detailed physiological material and description of the associated, commonly diseases.

The latter includes abnormal physiology, the likely progress and the probable outcome of untreated disease.

In this edition the pathophysiological material has been placed at the end of each chapter so that, in all cases, the abnormal follows the normal.

It is designed for nursing and paramedical students; radiographers; occupational therapists; school biology students.

An ELBS/LPBB edition is available.
