"Real Time English" together with "Prime Time English" are the first two books of a slow progression beginners course.

It is a listening and speaking course, rather than a four skills course and has a rather more adult focus than most books for beginners. "Prime Time English" follows the same basic structure as "Real Time English".

The only major difference is the introduction of substitution items in the practice dialogues on the opening pages of each unit.

Features of the course: slow progression; a zero unit which provides a useful reference source for basics such as colours, numbers, times, dates and classroom expressions; a small picture dictionary (word bank) in every unit to illustrate the vocabulary taught in the unit and used in the exercises.

In addition, the listening exercises progress gently from very easy tasks to something a bit more challenging and there is pair practice (information gap exercises) which encourages real time communication between students - and for those that finish first there are extra activities to keep them learning while the others finish. There is a consolidation unit after every three main units which includes board games and group activities as well as individual revision exercises.

Most of the book is on tape (even the picture dictionary sections) so that students get the right pronunciation from the moment the word is introduced.

For the teacher, the books are structured so that they are easy to use and so that the pair practice is easy to set up.

Lesson-plan style classroom notes are given so that even an inexperienced teacher can just pick up the book and teach.
