Geographical Information : From Research to Application Through Cooperation

Geographical information is defined as the collection of data on real or virtual objects which have a fixed place in relation to the earth.

It involves information on buildings, roads, pipelines, and cabling, as well as boundaries, air corridors, topography and postcode areas, and can be administrative and geometric.

Changes in social and economic interests have recently caused the emphasis to shift to virtual objects, like areas or postcode areas.

This is closely related to the increased desirability of analyzing and presenting policy information within certain spatial limits, in which the introduction of Geographical Information Systems (GIS) has played a significant role.

This study, in two volumes, addresses recent developments with respect to technological innovation, scientific progress, and advanced professional application in the field of geographical information.

In addition, it contains articles dealing with major fields of GI research and application.
