Sex Education

BBC Educational Publishing, a division of BBC Education, produces a range of materials which relate to School Broadcasting on television and radio.

Some, such as Teacher's Notes and Workbooks, relate to specific series and programmes.

Video and audio materials obviously make a complete package in themselves. This video on sex education aims to be different by dealing with all the issues in a sensitive, mature and user-friendly way.

The programmes in the video are truthful in their explanations of puberty and sex, but not sensationalist, the portrayal of the sexes is balanced and sex is, at all times, seen within the context of a loving relationship.

In order to be sensitive to those children not from a nuclear family background, partners are not referred to as husband and wife. Many religions have their own approach to sex - the teacher's booklet which comes with the video, explains which elements might cause offense to children from Muslim or Catholic families and offers help and advice in the teaching of sex education to multi-faith classes.
