See all formats and editions

This work is based upon qualitative research into the experiences of a number of carers working in local authority residential homes for older people. The interviews conducted capture the tensions and dilemmas when caring for people who are dying.

A key finding is that, because older people entering residential homes nowadays are more frail than ever, the interplay between attachment and loss has become more stressful for staff, who are going to need a great deal more support in the future in order to offer dignified care and comfort to people near the end of their life.
