Jugnauth : Prime Minister of Mauritius

See all formats and editions

The 12th June 1982 marked a turning point in the political history of Mauritius.

The "Father of the Nation", octogenarian Sir Seewoosagur Ramgoolam, was unceremoniously turned out of office after more than a generation at the helm.

An entirely new and radical left-wing alliance was swept to power, winning every single elective seat in the Legislative Assembly - a feat that was unique in the history of multi-party parliamentary democracy.

The man destined to take over from Ramgoolam as the country's new Prime Minister was an entirely different style of politician named Anerood Jugnauth.

This book examines his background and how he tackled the problems he inherited.
