This report is a response to the widespread international interest in promoting employment amongst disabled people, for both economic and social reasons, which has occured in the 1990s.

It is argued that changing characteristics of disabled people wanting work have challenged the traditional economic and social policies in many countries.

This report also examines the situation of the labour market and its disabled population in Austria, Finland, France, Germany, the Netherlands and Sweden.

Specific focus is laid on the range of social security and employment policies, and the varying subsidies and grants available.
