Transmissible spongiform encephalopathies : a summary of present knowledge and research

This report has been written to explain spongiform encephalopathies (SEs) to a wide variety of people, ranging from administrators to research scientists.

The first chapter gives a condensed account of SEs for the general reader, while the later sections go into more detail, reviewing epidemiology, infectivity and pathology.

The report is aimed at those who wish to be informed of the current status of research into the SEs, listing those questions which recent results have answered, those which still remain unanswered, and those which require further investigation.
