Psychosocial Aspects of Work and Health in the North Sea Oil and Gas Industry

This document brings together summaries and key findings from a series of nine studies carried out by the University of Oxford with funding from the Health and Safety Executive (HSE) Offshore Safety Division, and published during the years 1996 - 2001 under the general title "Psychosocial aspects of work and health in the North Sea oil and gas industry".

The work covers a range of topics relating to offshore work characteristics, mental and physical health among offshore personnel, and safety attitudes and perceptions (including an analysis of accident/injury statistics); the role of demographic factors, individual differences, and environmental characteristics in influencing work/health relationships is also considered.
